New life for a student home
The new student accommodation of the Bayernkolleg in Augsburg, Germany, was created alongside the restoration of the protected historic building complex of the former teacher training college at Schillstrasse 100.
With the Bayernkolleg, the building from the 1950s will be adequately used again and is also upgraded by the new home, which accommodates up to 66 students. This new building is located to the east of the school premises and, thanks to its angular staggered shape, together with the teacher training college, forms a new courtyard situation for the campus. The three-story dormitory also offers sound protection from the busy main road, creating a quiet inner courtyard.
The façade of the new building was designed with modern metal folding sliding shutters. They give the building a changeable exterior look, which changes according to the sun protection chosen by the residents. Hawa Frontfold 20 hardware was used for the 75 folding sliding shutters.
